It is said that Seurat spent over two years painting this picture.

그는 공원에 앉아 눈에 들어 오는 여러 가지들을 담아내려고 밑그림을 많이 그렸을 겁니다.

The idyllic picture has a quiet place with kids running around dogs and ducks in the river.

이 아늑한 그림에서 아이들이 강아지들과 뛰놀고 강에는 오리들이 있습니다.

Some (people) are trying to have forty winks in the afternoon.

어떤 사람들은 오후에 한잠 자려고 합니다.

Others are overlooking the river in front of them.

다른 사람들은 그들 앞에 펼쳐진 강을 바라보고 있습니다.

It is a nice Sunday afternoon.

화창한 일요일 오후입니다.

When I look at all the green trees and the beautiful river, I feel so peaceful.

푸른 나무와 아름다운 강을 바라보니, 마음이 평화로워 집니다.

I think the wind ruffles the surface of the river.

바람에 강물이 일렁이는 거 같습니다.

In my opinion, this is a self-portrait reflected in the bead.

And there was a tinge of sadness in this picture.

할아버지는 구슬에 비친 자신의 모습을 빤히 바라보고 있다.

그 모습은 왠지 모르게 고독하고 쓸쓸하다.

He is an image of urban loneliness.

도시인이 가지고 있는 고독한 모습이 느껴집니다.

He seems to feel forlorn and helpless on the absence of his family.

가족이 없어 외로워 보입니다.

할아버지 뒤에 책장이 있습니다.

There is a bookcase behind him.

책장에 책이 많이 있어서 할아버지는 많은 걸 알고 있을 거 같은데 고지식할 거 같습니다. 

And the bookcase contains so many books that the old man must be a walking encyclopedia but always play by the book.

그래서 그는 자기 자신이 초라하게 보였을 겁니다.

I guess this makes him want to hide away.

그래서 그가 겨울에 비친 그 모습을 그렸을까요?

Do you think that’s why he painted his reflection in the mirror?

Judging from his winkles, he must be weighed down with many troubles.

주름살이 자글자글 한 걸 보니 고생을 많이 하셨을 터다.
